Class Trip Program

For Students of Grade Four and Five
Saint Francis: Shining Knight for Christ has been specially designed to bring to life for your students an understanding of the inspiring reasons for the universal appeal of St. Francis, and to encourage them to draw closer to the Lord through the example of the saint.
Program Goals
  • To learn about the life of St. Francis and his importance for the Church both in his own time and in our present day.

  • To understand the saint's reverence for all of creation and the values of the gospel as a call to care in a most special way for our body, our soul, and the environment.

  • To appreciate the influence of the saint in art, poetry, literature and tradition.

  • To understand the overall contribution of religious life to the Church and to the world.

  • To experience the Lord in a personal way through an age-appropriate guided meditation.
Program for
FOURTH GRADERS
  • Introduction to the life of St. Francis

  • Fourth Grade level animated video followed by discussion period

  • Guided Meditation prayer experience

  • Break for snack/ bathrooms

  • Tour of our large Romanesque chapel, with emphasis on the history of stained glass and the story of St. Anthony; the Franciscan habit will be explained, along with the development of Christian education from the first monastic schools.

  • Workshop: Each child will create his/her own illuminated manuscript of the Prayer of St. Francis
Program for
FIFTH GRADERS
  • Introduction to the life of St. Francis

  • Fifth Grade level video presentation, followed by discussion.

  • Guided Meditation prayer experience

  • Break for snack/bathrooms

  • Tour of our chapel, with emphasis on the Franciscan coat-of-arms, which are depicted on the unique altar from the tomb of St. Francis; telling of the story of St. Clare and an explanation of the history of relics.

  • Workshop: Each child will create a personal coat of arms which represents things he/she loves and a motto by which the student wishes to live.

An Activities Workbook ...
for follow-up and review will be given to each teacher. The workbook includes exercises such as fill-ins and a crossword puzzle, along with a variety of art activities.
Programs run for a period of two and one-half hours, and can begin at 9:00 a.m. or 9:30 a.m., depending on your school's bus schedule.

A light snack of lemonade and cookies is included. Coffee is provided for all teachers and chaperones.

The fee for each child is $8.00, with a total minimum of $200.00 required for each group.

A deposit of $50.00 is necessary to reserve the date. Your deposit will be deducted from the total fee.

* Please note that the Youth Retreat Team of St. Francis Center for Spirituality also offers Confirmation and Graduation Retreat Days, as well as Retreat Days for each of the four years of High School.
